Ball Park Station
Staten Island, NY

As construction crews were topping off the new stadium for the Staten Island Yankees (NY Yankees farm team), we decided it would be neat to check out the new rail station that was being built for the stadium. We entered near the big ramp where there is a grade crossing (only one on the SIRT) for work vehicles. Since it was a road crossing, there was no fence, and since it was a Friday afternoon, the workes had left early. On one side of the island platform, a new track was just installed, but the trackbed on the otherside was empty. JS9X thought it would be a good idea to test the third rail by laying a peice of rebar across it and a rail (thus completing the circuit). No sparks. This is a good time to take funny pictures with "electrocuted" poses (I'll spare you Internet perusers from seeing these). Anyway, it was cool seeing the return of passenger service on the "North Shore".
