War Store
Rochester, NY
After spotting this location from the road, we decided
to check it out. Once we got inside, we saw random machine parts
from wall to wall. Apparently it was some kind of store with an
old cash register and all. Strangely enough, there was an entire
non-articulated flatbed truck right inside. There were a few cool
things on the lower level like a rusted bomb, and various machines.
Moving up to the second level, we find a hugh number of small parts
and light bulbs that were involved in the war effort of WWII. Boxes
bearing company names like Curtiss-Wright, Kodak, and General Electric
all held once-important devices and documents. Now it's a WWII buff's
rummage playground. Going up another level, we find a hayloft with
thousands or more small boxes with brand-new sealed items labelled
for the B29 bomber aircraft. Among other things were PAR-56 lamps,
smaller bulbs, ring and bead gunsights, lenses, filters, and small
engines. Back on the ground level out back, we found sighting equipment
that were probably used by bombardiers in bombers. These optical
devices were built by Rochester-based General Railway and Signal
Company that diverted their rail signal manufacturing power to aid
in the war effort.
